The short term memory in human beings can only absorb and process few chunks of memory and that too for a short period of time whereas to remember data for a longer period it is necessary to put them in long term memory.Some recent findings have shown that in order to support the short-term memory, experts developed their long term memory thereby overcoming the limited capacity of the short term memory. But once more the storage capacity isnt what makes a difference between a novice and an expert. It is the ability of an expert to visualize and analyse as well as reason the patterns and data in such a way that it provides live for more planning that differentiates him from an amateur. In order to have this ability of an expert, practice seems to be the only solution.Again being an expert in problem closure in a particular domain is not the only skill required by an expert but good planning skill too is critical. By deciding on the right methods and goals based on past experiences experts are more successful in predicting likely outcomes. Thus in order to facilitate quick retrieval of information from the long term memory it is necessary to conceptualize the largely disaggregated data that one acquires during education and training. Through a continuous series of trial, error and reliable feedback, information gets stored in memory and readily available.But in spite of these characteristics experts may not be better judges also in their own domains. An experts decision would differ from another one based on his knowledge and experience. But again agreement cannot be the only criteria to judge an expert. Experience During my career as a computer engineer I had done multiple projects. But I remember one of the projects in the early days of my career which was a fairly complex one. It was a complex one only because in spite of learning that computer programming language in my undergraduate course and also having been rained for it in the company I had to struggle through the coding because I hadnt practised it actually. But the irony was that the project manager was quite an expert at it and had an extensive knowledge in that programming language despite the fact that this language came into actual practice long after his graduation. I later came to know that he had successfully completed a number of projects using this programming language. Powwow of Love

The 30th annual MSU Pow-Wow of Love was held on March 16, 2013. Arriving at Jenison Fieldhouse around 7. 35pm, I found myself breaking star of the rules. I entered the building from the eastside entrance where the entrance was reserved just for the dancers. I then walked towards the dance arena, where the crowd gathered. The first thing that caught my eyes was the colorful and unique dance raiment or outfit worn by the dancers. Bright colors such as yellow, orange, red, and light blue wrapped around the dancers beautifully.The older looking antheral dancers were wearing the square up warbonnets on the head and bustles on the back. Dancers with striking multicolored beaded and fringed outfits were crowding the dance floor. Some of the female dancers dressed unanalyzable with their colorful fringed shawls. I noniced that some dancers even had bells attached to their ankles or dance outfits that they wore. I also was told that the feathers and leathers used were inherited from th eir father up to their great grandfather. The sight was so magnificent it made me excited to stay for the show.The dancing has already started when I arrived. I was told that they were doing the Intertribal Dance. In this limited dance, everyone is welcome to take part even the spectators. The dancers moved in a circular clockwise motion a without any particular moves. They then invited the human race to join them in the dance. I was hesitating to try it at first. But I told myself that wont get the picture anywhere else. So, I unyielding to just do it. The basic step is the same step used by traditional dancers. First, one foot is tapped on one beat, placed surmount flatly.The action is then repeated with the opposite foot, without missing a beat. I enjoyed taking part in the dance as it was the only chance for me to experience the Native American culture closely. Other dances that were performed are the Fallen square dance, the Two-Step dance and the Social Dance. Out of a ll these dances, the Fallen Feather dance fascinated me the most. It was performed because a feather fell from dancers outfit. It was performed by four of the veteran male dancers. They danced around and one of the dancers picked up the feather at the end of the dance while saying the prayers to it.The feather was then given back to the dancer who dropped it. I was told that in some cases, if the feather is not claimed, the person who picked it up can give it to anyone he thinks deserve the feather. During this dance, the spectators were asked to stand and remove their hats to respect the ceremony. Also, to protect its sacredness, pictures and videos were not allowed to be taken during the dance ceremony. later on watching all the dances, I went to check out the art vendors. I would say that the arts and handicrafts made are eye-catching. The beadworks are impeccable.Most of the arts were based on their beliefs and lifestyles. For example, the dreamcatcher was made to prevent nigh tmare. The rabbit foot, the turtle necklace, the bone knifes, blankets and weavings were some of the famous handicrafts sold that day. I even bought myself a dreamcatcher as a souvenir. I nip so honored to have experienced this Pow-Wow event. They have such great pride and respect for their land, culture and tradition. Most of the Native Americans that I encountered that day do not look like those people I saw in the movie they look much like the Americans.And what amaze me most is that they still locomote up to their culture and tradition despite the difficulties they experienced in the past and the U. S. governments policies towards banning some of the Native American cultures in the physical body of assimilation to assimilate Native Americansinto the mainstream USculture. Overall, this experience has altered my perceptions about how the Native Americans really look and live their life. Being an international student, this is definitely one of the most memorable nights Ive ev er experience in the U. S.

Evaluating a technology concepts lesson Essay

The ensureing environment observed was one that had the procedure of computers in mind. The classroom size was big enough to seat al intimately twenty or so students that had a studentcomputer ratio of 11. The computers were arranged in such a way that two rows of computers were derriere to back so that students would be facing each other. There were four rows in all with the teacher seated on the end of one row. This constitution allowed easy student to student interaction and at the same time easy teacher to student interaction since the teacher was situated where she had a replete view of all the students.An overhead projector was similarly set up beside the teacher with the screen facing her and the students, allowing a real time view of what the teacher was doing on her own computer making it for her to explain the confinements she gave to her students. This made it easy for students to tardily check their thrash against the teachers without having to disrupt the class . 1-b Many education activities could be observed in the class. The go byn task was to identify from the given paragraphs the main ideas and the supporting details to the main ideas.The students were then tasked to use the computers to put their ideas down and score sure they edited their work. Thus, the most important parts of the whole activity were brainstorming, graphic organizing, and word processing. In the brainstorming activity, the students had sharing in ideas in wasted group discussions that the teacher utilized to give the students time talk about their ideas. These helped the students in identifying the main ideas and supporting details. They then summarized their discussions. These small group discussions help the students come upon better since they be able to check whether their ideas have merit or not.In a way, they are doing checks and balances. The graphic organizing and word processing then father them to the realm of applied science where they can put the ir ideas and their work to life. They can actually view the work they came up with by typing these in, editing it, and checking whether the spelling and grammar are all correct. 1-c Effective teaching is always seen when a teacher begins the lesson with a short statement of goals, presents the material in small steps with clear instruction manual and explanation, and provide a high level of practice for all the students.An potent teacher also checks for student understanding and guide the students through the exercise. The teacher also provides a venue for feedback to see whether the lesson was understood and know what areas can be improved (Rosenshine & Stevens, 1986). Keeping that in mind, my observation was that the teacher did exactly what is expected of an effective teacher. She stated the goals of the lesson and delivered the instructions of the lesson step-by-step. She also gave examples of what she meant and used the computer and overhead projector to show the students wha t she meant.She provided the students a venue to discuss their ideas and thereby giving them a high level of practice within the lesson. Not only that, by letting the students do their work with the use of the computer, she provided another venue for real life situations wherein indite is do on computers including editing and revising. At the end of the lesson, she asked one student to read to the class his writing output and gave feedback by acknowledging that the student was able to do his work correctly since the student had a main idea and some supporting details in his work.2-a The students were actually overmuch engaged with the task and the vehicle of technology used to deliver the lesson. They seemed comfortable with the use of the technology and I attribute this to the teachers step-by-step delivery of the lesson. Her style of going through the task by showing the students what she meant made it easy for the students to follow and most likely gave them the courage to d o the task. 3-a The instructional purpose of the lesson was to simulate real life writing wherein writers make use of the computer to write, edit, and revise their work.Her additional goals included a better knowledge of the use of graphic adapters after the lesson. Her choice of technology was the dress hat choice in terms of simulating real life situations. Not only that, it gave her students an introduction to the use of a computer in writing. This is important since this knowledge is very important not only in real life situations but also in schooling. Evidently, most assignments nowadays are expected to be hand in typewritten, in a certain work onat, and in a certain font.Her choice then was the scoop up choice in driving home the lesson that students should learn to use the computer in doing the task of summarizing an es vocalise an identifying the main ideas with supporting details included. 4-a The effectiveness of the lesson delivery is seen in how a student is able t o come across then endpoint of the lesson. The use of technology then is a vehicle towards that endpoint. Now, if a teacher is able to effectively deliver the lesson, the endpoint can easily be achieved. This was clearly seen in the video.The teacher was able to use the computer technology in arriving at the endpoint of having a professionally made digest containing the main ideas and supporting details of her given essay at the start of the class. In the same vein, she was able to improve the students abilities in the use of the graphic organizer and word processor. Also, since the ratio of studentcomputer was 11, it gave the students a certain satisfaction that the work they did was actually work made by their own hands. They could say that it was a product of their own hard work and be proud and they were proud of their achievement.4-b I was proveing to analyze how best an English lesson could be bodied with the use of technology and tried to reflect how I could maximize not only the use of technology but also maximize the endpoints that is always best when teaching Englishmeaning I would not only require that my students know how to use a graphic organizer and word processor, I want them to learn how to brainstorm, share ideas, work on their own to arrive at the correct answers, and still achieve metacognitive learning by letting the students themselves arrive at reflection on whether the lesson did improve their knowledge and by how much.This is the kind of endpoint I would want in every lesson I have. Thus, this is why my rating of this evaluation came about from this viewpoint and why it mattered much to me that the students were able to get the best of the world of English writing and technology. 5-aOne alternative or additional form of technology that could have been useful was the use of audios. Students could be given separate paragraphs or essays that they had to listen to individually or in small groups.This would also canvas their listenin g skills as well as their comprehension skills. This alternative would make use of what is known as the VAK attack or Visual, Auditory, and Kinetic learning. This can extend learning since more senses are used. 5-b My choice of recommendation relies in my belief that multisensorial learning is a good way to increase their chances of remembering the lesson. It also give a wider range of engagement in terms of capturing students attention since some students are visual, some auditory, and others kinetic.When a teacher tries to deliver a lesson that makes use duplex senses, it increases the chances of more students retaining the lesson. 6-aMy initial reaction to the use of technology in the observed classroom was one of approval. I find that the use of modern day technology should be used more often in the classroom setting since I believe that learning should reflect situations in real life. It would not be beneficial for a student to be kept ignorant of the use of technology when i n school since once they are out of the campus they face a different situation.The use of modern day technology is very evident in every corner of our lives. A good example would be the use of ATMs which needs at least a very basic knowledge of keyboard use or touchscreen interface knowledge. It may be difficult to accept curiously if the teacher belongs to an older generation that did not incorporate as much technology but I believe that it should be part and parcel of most lessons today.6-b As I expressed in my thinking process of this evaluation, I really considered how technology can be maximized in teaching as much to a student without giving them an information overload. My personal view has always been a multisensorial approach to learning helps. In a childs learning environment, no matter what language that child speaks, they should be comfortable and familiar with the things that surround them. If a childs native language is Spanish, French or German, there should be a corresponding labels in that language on shelves, tables, toys and doors.Other ma terials that is used in a classroom that assist with linguistic diversity is age appropriate books, printed materials such as newspapers, flyers and signs in different languages and music from diverse cultures (Robles de Melendez, 2009). We need to understand, expect, and discover comfortable with the natural responses (e. g. laughter, first language use, silence and fatigue) that occur when our students participate in interactions in which they are not completely proficient in their language (Curran, 2003).Teachers should respect the fact that students that are English delivery Learners or ELL may want to speak their native language.
